I am in a conservation area?
It’s worth talking to your local council / planning department officer as it’s entirely possible you can install Solar Panels provided you adhere to a few council stipulations.
Planning Advice
In order to encourage the take up of renewable technologies (Such as solar panels) the Government has greatly reduced red tape by amending permitted development rights legislation.
Essentially as long as you don’t live in a listed building, or within a conservation area, there is no need to seek planning permission to install PV panels.
It is however important that the PV panels are fitted below the roof ridge line and project no more than 20cm (8 inches) from the roof or wall surface.
